Following the death of Caramel, my downstairs neighbors - two adults and two kids - have been given two kittens. I was formally introduced to the kittens Tuesday night, and their names are Noisette (Hazelnut) & Cassonnade (Brown Sugar). They are two months old female tortoiseshell kittens. I mention 'female' for the non-cat experts, because it is a fact, tortoiseshell cats are almost always female. One out of two hundreds are male and sterile. All the others are female. The tortoiseshell is actually a black cat with spots of yellow tabby, and the spots being two tones, like all tabbies, that's what makes them look, in the end, like black, orange-yellow and cream. Noisette and Cassonnade have no white spots, only the black, orangy yellow and cream. We have no pictures of the kittens right now, they are a little camera shy, so in the meanwhile, I got one from the web that looks identical to them.  Welcome Noisette and Cassonnade.

I think what I find so heartmelting about kittens is there tiny little miaows, high pitched yet not loud. That and the way they cuddled up in the palm of one hand. How can you not fall for that ...

Suite à la mort de Caramel, mes voisins du dessous - deux adultes et deux enfants - ont reçu deux châtons. J'ai été présenté aux châtons mardi soir : Noisette et Cassonnade. Ce sont deux chattes écailles de tortue et tout juste âgées de deux mois. Je précise pour ceux qui l'ignore que les chats écailles de tortue sont 199 fois sur 200 des chattes. Un pour cent sont mâles et stériles. La robe des chats est en fait noire avec des tâches 'tabby', soit deux tons (jaune et crème par exemple). Pour le moment, nous n'avons pas de photographies des châtons timides, mais j'ai trouvé celle-çi sur le web et c'est Noisette et/ou Cassonnade tout craché !

J'avoue que mon coeur fond à la vue de châtons, en partie à cause de leurs cris, à la fois perçants et minuscules. Mais aussi et surtout à la façon qu'ils ont de se lover au creux d'une main. Comment ne pas craquer pour eux !

Kittens are very cute and always the epitome of innocence. Playful little things. Glad that your neighbors have taken in these two.
